Abstract
Background : Today there are still many people who do not know or understand the neurological disease Bell's palsy. The incidence of Bell's palsy in Indonesia is certainly still difficult to determine. Data from Hospital Dr, Moewardi January to December in 2013 found as many as 177 patients with Bell's palsy prevalence incidence in women more than men. Objective : To determine differences in the effectiveness of corticosteroid prednisolone group and the methyl group of methyl prednisolone combination of corticosteroids and antiviral acyclovir for the treatment of patients with Bell's palsy. Methods : The study design using analytic observational study with cross sectional study using 68 subjects were divided into 2 groups, 34 subjects corticosteroid therapy and 34 other subjects get corticosteroid combination with antiviral therapy. In this study, researchers conducted a measurement of the effectiveness of management when it comes to the hospital and finished the therapeutic action by using the House-Brackmann Score. Measurements were performed to determine differences in the level of Bell's palsy disorders experienced by the patient. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square test. Results of Research : The analysis shows that the effectiveness of medical therapy corticosteroid prednisolone methyl group to the patient Bell's palsy as many as 16 patients (57.1) which is considered to show the effect more quickly. Patients with medical therapy corticosteroid total of 18 patients (45%) showed less healing process so quickly and effectively. Then the patients who received the combination therapy of corticosteroids and antiviral medical show 12 patients (42.9%) were considered to show the effect more quickly and deliver significant results. While as many as 22 patients (55%) showed less healing process so quickly and effectively. Conclusion : The value indicates the number 0.324 significancy. Therefore, p> 0.05. The absence of significant differences between the old with the type of medical therapy given, and show that the use of methyl prednisolone group corticosteroid therapy is more effective in the treatment of patients with Bell's palsy less than 21 days compared with corticosteroid combination therapy with antiviral.
