Abstract

This study is aimed in describing the implementation of Cartoon Humor and the improvement of the students’ writing ability in teaching narrative writing by using Cartoon Humor. The result of this study is expected to contribute the teaching learning English in senior high school. The study was implemented in SMA N 1 SEMIN using action research. The writer took 35 students at the second year as the subject of the research. The researcher implemented Cartoon Humor as media in teaching narrative writing. The researcher compared the result of pre-test, test in cycle 1, test in cycle 2, and test in cycle 3(post-test) in teaching narrative writing by using Cartoon Humor to collect the required data and change the result in to percent form. The result of the research shows that: (1) the implementation of Cartoon Humor in teaching narrative writing can improve the students’ narrative writing ability, (2) the mean of test I as a pre-test is 57, 78% as a “Poor criteria” on the level of interpretation, (3) the mean of test II is 64, 39% as a “Fair criteria “on the level of interpretation, (4) the mean of test III is 70, 09%as a “Good criteria “on the level of interpretation, (5) the mean of test IV as a post-test is 74, 24% as a “Good criteria” on the level of interpretation. In the explanation above, it can be known that Cartoon Humor could improve the students’ ability in narrative writing. Considering the result of the research, there is improvement on the percentages of the students who had improvement in writing narrative achievement. It can be inferred that Cartoon Humor can improve students’ narrative writing ability.
