Abstract

This research is carried out to describe the error of English workbooks as supporting media for teaching learning process. The workbooks should be perfect without errors. The researcher takes 4 workbooks used in Junior High School at Pekalongan. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses procedures of error analysis. The data are analyzed qualitatively to find the dominant type of errors made by the writer. The result of the analysis shows that the writers make some errors. The error consists of 19 types of errors: bound morpheme -s/ -es (omission of –s in plural form, omission of –s/-es in verb of the present tense, addition of –s/-es in verb of the present tense, addition of –s/-es in noun, misused of -‘s in the present tense, omission of ‘s in the interrogative form of present tense), TO BE (omission of present BE as copula, omission of present BE in interrogative form, misused of present BE in interrogative form, misused of BE in the present tense, misused of past BE in interrogative form), omission of article, misused of preposition, noun (omission of subject in interrogative form of the present tense, omission of object in the present tense, addition of words in the present tense), misspelled word, verb (the use of V ing instead of V1, the use of V1 instead of V3). The researcher also finds the sources of errors, those are interlingual and intralingual transfer. Based on the result, the researcher concludes that the writers still make errors. So, they should understand more English.
