Abstract
of SMPN 3 Kartasura especially in the written form. The subject is the second grade of SMPN 3 Kartasura class 8 (8F). There are 40 students. The type of research is qualitative research. In collecting data, the writer chooses document technique. The technique for analyzing data are classifying the sources, describing the frequency of errors, describing the dominant type of error, and describing the sources of error. Having analyzed the data, the writer finds that of the 200 data are divided into the four categories of surface strategy taxonomy, namely: omission, addition, misformation, and misordering.In omission error, the students make 7 types of errors, they are: omission of –s or –es in verb of present tense (19 %), omission of to be in present tense (5 %), omission of subject in present tense (7,5 %), omission of verb in present tense (4 %), omission of verb II in past tense (3 %), omission of article (3,5 %), and omission of preposition (3,5 %). In addition error, the students make 5 types of errors, they are: addition of to be in present tense (9,5 %), the use of double auxiliary in present tense (3 %), double marking in past tense (3,5 %), addition of unnecessary article (3,5 %), and addition of unnecessary preposition (5 %). There are 3 kind of misformation, namely: regularization, archi-form, and alternating form. In this researcher, the researcher only finds two types of misformation error, namely: archi-form and alternating form that consist of misuse of auxiliary verb in present tense (1 %), misformation of verb in simple past tense (2,5 %), the verb –ing use in simple past tense (2,5 %), misuse of article (4,5 %), misuse of preposition (2,5 %), and misspelled word (4 %). The last type of error is misordering. In the research, the researcher only find one kind of misordering error, namely word order (5,5 %). Based on table of data, the researcher found that the highest frequency is omission of –s or –es in the simple present tense (19 %). The researcher also found 2 dominant sources of errors, namely: interlingual transfer and intralingual transfer.
