Abstract

The major problem of this study is how Women's spirit in Shannon Christie is reflected in Far and Away movie based on liberalist feminist approach. This study is to analyze structural elements of Far and Away movie and Shannon’s spirit toward equality base on liberalist feminist point of view. This research paper is qualitative research. The object of the study is Far and Away movie directed by Ron Howard published 1992 by Universal Picture. The Primary data source is the Far and Away movie itself and the secondary data sources are other references related to the analysis such as the author’s biography, books of feminist issues, literary criticism and virtual reference especially liberal feminism. The method of data selection is documentation research. The technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis. The result of the study shows the relationship between the movie with the social phenomena in America. In Far and Away movie, Ron Howard describes women's spirit in the late of nineteenth century to face patriarchal system the movie also views that women have spirit to reach modern system. The women should have smart views and positive ambition. Furthermore, Ron Howard wants to say that women must have spirit to reach their right in the issues of women's position, role, rights, and participation.
