Abstract
movie entitled "SNATCH”, and 2) the meanings of London Slang in the movie entitled “SNATCH” This research belongs to qualitative research. In collecting the data, the researcher uses documentation method and observes the data by reading the movie script, selecting London slang in the movie script, classifying and arrange all the London slang found in the movie entitled “SNATCH” into a list. The result of the study shows that 1) London slang consists of several different word classes and phrase classes. In the form of words, there are four words (7,7%) are verbs, twenty-six words (50%) are nouns, five words (9,6%) are adjectives, two words (3,8%) are pronouns and another one word (1,9%) is a preposition. In the form of phrases, the writer finds nine verbal phrases (17,4%), four noun phrases (7,7%) and one prepositional phrase (1,9%), 2) there are five types of meanings based on the changes of meaning of London slang. First, nineteen words (36,5%) for the real meaning and the new meaning of the words are quite different, whereas the real meaning of the word is broader than the new meaning represented by the same word. Second, three words (5,8%) for the real meaning and the new meaning of the words are quite different, whereas the new meaning of the word is broader than its real meaning. Third, one word (3,8%) for the real meaning and the new meaning of the words share some features of meaning, whereas such of them has different meaning. Fourth, three words (5,8%) for the real meaning and the new meaning of the word are identical to each other but used in different field. Fifth, twenty-five words (48,1%) for the new meaning do not have real meaning. The explanation above shows that London slang has a rich array of vocabularies and a style of meaning.
