Abstract
This research studies about syntactic structure and grammatical feature of Black English in movie manuscript. The writer takes the data from Malcolm X and Man In Black Movie manuscript. In collecting the data, the writer uses the documentation method while the technique of collecting data is reading the movie manuscript of Malcolm X and Man In Black. In writing the research paper, the writer employs the descriptive qualitative method. By using this method, the writer describes the data by referring to the existence of linguistic elements without counting them statistically. The analysis of syntactic structure of Black English in movie manuscript based on syntactic structure and phrase structure rule and the Grammatical features of Black English in movie manuscript based on the grammatical feature of Black English. From the analysis, the writer finds two forms of syntactic structure of Black English in Malcolm X and Man In Black movie manuscript, they are sentence and phrase. The writer only finds six of the syntactic structure of Black English in Malcolm X and Man in Black movie manuscript. First, there are three data of declarative sentence. Second, there are three data of interrogative sentence. Third, there is one data of simple sentence. Fourth, there are six data of compound sentence. Fifth, there are two data of complex sentence. Sixth, there is one data of verb phrase. The forms of sentence have elements (S NP + VP), (Declarative sentence NP + VP), (Interrogative sentence Q + NP + VP ) * Sentence in BE, be is dropped (copula absence), ** If “be” is the first auxiliary verb, it would be moved to the front of the sentence. (Simple sentence NP + VP ), * in simple sentence of Black English there is no be verb because one of the grammatical features of Black English is be verb is dropped. (Compound sentence S + Conj + S / Conj + S + S), (Complex sentence S + S) * the first sentence is independent clause and the second sentence is dependent clause while the forms of Verb Phrase have elements (VP Qual + Aux + V + NP). Meanwhile, there are four grammatical features of Black English in Malcolm X and Man In Black in movie manuscript. They are copula absence, agreement, tense and aspect and negative.
