Abstract

The purposes of this research are: (1) to identify the forms of cosmetic name used in Oriflame product, (2) to clarify the referential meaning of cosmetic name used in Oriflame product, and (3) to find out the factors underlying the use of cosmetic name in Oriflame product. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data of this research are the cosmetic names derived from Oriflame product. The data collecting method are documentation and questionnaire. There are two steps in data collecting, first finding the cosmetic names from the catalogue. Second, spreading the questionnaires to the Oriflame consultant containing several questions such as Name, Number of Consultant, Address, Product Name, Cosmetic Name, The reason, motive, cause informed the cosmetic name. Data analysis the researcher uses identitying method which the determination device coming from outside of language. Due to the determination device in this research, the researcher uses referential identity technique. This consists of two procedures, they are Referent competence in-dividing and Translation competence in-dividing The result of this research shows that first, the forms of cosmetic name which has referential meaning are noun and noun phrase. Second, the referent of the cosmetic name refers to (1) Color, (2) Smell, (3) Object, (4) Human physic, (5) Character, (6) Procedure or Method, (7) Human activity, (8) Personage, (9) Season, (10) Time, and (11) Age. Third, the factors underlying the use of cosmetic name in Oriflame product are :(1) the raw material of cosmetic product, (2) character of the cosmetic product, (3) Oriflame Inspirited to the other product, and (4) Oriflame hope to their customer
