Abstract
The object of the research is the film entitled The Last Samurai by Edward Zwick’s. The study focuses on Katsumoto’s ambition as reflected in the main character of The Last Samurai viewed from psychoanalytic theory. The aim of the study is exploring the ambition that is reflected in Katsumoto’s personality. The study belongs to a qualitative study. In this research, the researcher uses two data sources namely primary and secondary data. The primary data source and object of study is the film The Last Samurai itself. Meanwhile the secondary ones are any literature related with the study. The technique for data analyzing in this study is descriptive method. The result of the study shows that for the ambition is obviously reflected in Katsumoto’s personality. Katsumoto’s id shows that he wants to defend the country by serving the Emperor. Katsumoto fights with the Omura, is created in the ego by the executive. Hopefully the Emperor listens to him, and changes his decision to cut the deal with USA. His superego walks under his death in honor, because he had tried many ways to make the Emperor realize of his wrong decisions.
