Abstract
This research paper aims to know the variation translation of English interjection in Danielle Steel’s Fine Things into it’s Indonesian version Yang Terindah by Suwarni AS. The writer analyzes the equivalency and appropriateness both in it’s literal meaning and contextual meaning. The object of this study is the interjections in Danielle Steel’s Fine Things and it’s Indonesian version Yang Terindah by Suwarni AS. Data of this study are the interjections that are taken from the novel and it’s translation. In analyzing the data the writer looking for the original interjections to the Indonesian translation to find out the meaning of the translation, then classifies the variations of English interjection translated into Indonesian and analyzes the accuracy of its translation based on sentence context, the appropriateness of language, the appropriateness of meaning and target language. In this study the writer uses descriptive analysis method. The results of the research show that the translator has translated the English interjection that can be classified into four classifications, namely: 1) Interjections that are translated into interjections, 2) Interjections that are translated with variations of Indonesian interjections, 3) English interjections that are not translated, and 4) English interjections that are vanished. The interjections both in SL and in TL are purely used to express the character’s feeling, to give intension in character’s sense. Not all English interjections in this research have the appropriate literal meaning when they are translated into Indonesian. But, on the other hand, contextually all of the English interjections have the appropriate meaning when they are translated into Indonesian.
