Abstract

This research analyses how morality influences the chosen characters in Mario Puzo’s The Family, especially viewed by Leibniz moral philosophy approach. The study analyses the novel in terms of its structural elements and based on moral philosophical perspective. This study belongs to qualitative research: the researcher does not use statistic and calculation in analysing the data. The writer uses two data sources; primary data sources and secondary data sources. The primary data sources is the novel entitled The Family written by Mario Puzo and the secondary data sources are any books of literature and moral philosophy. The writer analyzes both primary and secondary data sources in unity. The writer also uses library research and internet browsing as the data collecting method. The technique of analysis is descriptive. Finally, the writer finds out that morality is reflected in Mario Puzo The Family through the characters of The Family; Alexander VI, Cesare Borgia and Lucrezia. The morality influences their will and their decision which alter them to act. Alexander VI, Cesare Borgia and Lucrezia get suitable compensation because of their action. The destiny leads them to the death.
