Abstract
This study aims at describing the English teaching-learning process using Montessori Method at Nur Hidayah Kindergarten in 2007/2008 academic year, the result of it and the strengths and weaknesses of it. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was done in TKIT Nur-Hidayah Surakarta. The writer took the students of class B1 and B2 ( Abu Bakar Ass-Shidiq’s Family and Umar bin Khatab’s Family) of TKIT Nur Hidayah in 2007/2008 academic year as the subject of the study., whose ages are 5-6 years old. The writer conducted the treatment to the students in the form of pre-test and post-test. The method of collecting data are observing, interview and documentation, and test.The implementation of English teaching-learning process consist of five cycles, each cycles consist of planning, acting/implementing, observing, and reflecting. After collecting the data and analyzing them, the writer described the result of the research. She finds that there are three kinds of the result in this research: (1) There are 14 students(77,77%) who increased their achievement in English, (2) there are 2 students ( 11,11) who decreased their achievement in English, (3) there were 2 students who has static achievement in English. The conclusion is English-teaching-learning process using Montessori Method at TKIT Nur Hidayah has excellent and effective result. There are some strength that can be found in English teaching-learning process; (1) the students have a high interest in following teaching-learning process. (2) The students are motivated to be active in the class. (3) It is easy to understand, memorize, remember, and it can avoid miss understanding because the students see the picture and use it in playing the games. Besides that, there are some weaknesses of English teaching-learning process using Montessori Method: (1) the teacher must spend her spare time at home to prepare suitable material. (2) beside spending her spare time the teacher also has to spend much money to get the material. (3) it needs more energy to teach English pronunciation, also she should give example as a model to explain the picture and how the games play.
