Abstract

This research aims at finding out the implementation of School-level based Curriculum and to know the problems faced by the teacher in English teaching-learning process. The writer takes the English teacher and students of the first year as the subject of the study. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The writer collects the data by observing English class, document, and interview English students of the first year of SMP N 1 Andong. From the research finding, data analysis and discussion the writer draws some conclusions. The first, the teaching-learning process contains 2 skills; namely spoken skills and written skills. The procedures consists of 4 steps; namely Building Knowledge of Fields (BKOF), Model of Text (MOT), Joint Construction of Text (JCOT), and Independent Construction (IC). The second, the materials are appropriate with the indication of School Level-based Curriculum. The third, the teacher plays roles as transferor, controller, motivator and evaluator, while the students play roles as listener and doer. The fourth, the assessment of student’s English achievement is measured by the score of assignment, score of daily test and score of final test. The fifth, the problems faced by teacher are a) The teacher still gets difficulty in giving the materials or teaching material from other sources which are suitable with school-level based curriculum, b) the teacher still gets difficulty in applying the material and teaching method in teaching but the teacher tries to make the students active, c) the teacher still gets the difficulty in the evaluation.
