Abstract

The study aims to know the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary using traditional and SLT to the fourth year students of SDN Surodadi Boyolali in 2007/2008 academic year. To collect the data, the researcher used a test. The type of the test is multiple choices. Here, the researcher gets the numerical data and to analyze the data the researcher uses T-test. T-test is a technique for analyzing data that is used to compare mean score between two groups of students. The researcher compares the mean score of control group and experiment group, and she gets tarithmetic > ttable (2,391 > 2,021). Consulting to the result of computation in tarithmetic, the researcher concludes that there is a difference in achieving vocabulary mastery. It means that student who are taught using SLT have higher score than students who are taught using traditional method. In general the researcher concludes that teaching vocabulary by using SLT can encourage the student's ability in mastering vocabulary. By using SLT, the students are brought to use the vocabulary in spoken way. During the activities the students were helped to memorize the words by using repetition and drills indirectly.
