Abstract

This study aims at describing the process of teaching vocabulary by using flash card to the fifth year students of SD Negeri 02 Guwokajen, the result and the student’s response to it. The writer conducted Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of five cycles, each cycle consists of four elements, namely: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The problem found in the first cycle and the third cycles. The problem in the first cycle is that usually the students got difficulty to memorize the words and they easily get bored in studying English. The problem in the third cycles is that the students are not active in studying English and they still get difficulty in pronouncing the words on the flash cards orally by themselves. To answer the problems the writer uses flash card in order to increase the student’s vocabulary. The result of the research shows that there are three findings in the research: (1) there are15 students (88, 23%) who increased vocabulary achievement. (2) There is only 1 student (5, 88%) who decreased her vocabulary achievement. (3) There is also only 1 student (5, 88%) who is static or did not develop his vocabulary achievement. The conclusion is flashcard can increase the students’ vocabulary. Therefore, it is better for the students to study English carefully through practice and experience and to be active and creative in learning English. While the English teacher should teach the students with flash cards, process considerable knowledge to manage an interesting classroom, and prepare the lessons.
