Abstract

This study elaborates the oppression against women in Marshall Herskovitz’s A Destiny of Her Own based on socialist feminist approach. After analyzing this movie, the writer finds the kinds of oppression against women in A Destiny of Her Own movie. This study belongs to qualitative study. In the method, there are two types of data source, which are used by the writer, namely primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source and the object is the film of the Marshall Herskovitz’s A Destiny of Her Own itself, meanwhile he secondary one is other data that related of the study. The writer collects the data from both, primary and secondary data sources in a short of document as evidence. The study uses library research to collect the data. The collected data are analyzed by means of descriptive analysis. Having analyzed this film, the writer draws some conclusions as follows. Firstly, the structural element of A Destiny of Her Own movie are related to one another forming a unified whole. Secondly, the movie illustrates six types of oppression against women, namely: physical, psychological, social, political, economic, and law oppression. Thirdly, the movie represents a criticism of different oppression experienced by women and that women should struggle in order to get their rights.
