Abstract
This research is aimed at describing the teaching reading at SD Negeri 04 Kartasura and describing the difficulties faced by the teacher. This research is a qualitative research. This writer uses descriptive method to present the data. The data of the research are in the form of student’s answer and also the result of interview. The result of the research is 1. Basically the objective of English the teaching reading in elementary school is to introduce English as the first foreign language. 2. The objective of the teaching reading comprehension is to explain the optimization way of the students use their time for experience. Another basic objective is that the students can construct their own conceptual models of all aspects of the language. The best way of achieving this is to encourage students to be independent, students easier to enrich the new pronounciation and to remember them. 3. In the teaching-learning process, the teacher used some media, such as books, picture, and blackboards. The difficulties faced by teacher in teaching reading comprehension are learning difficulty, easy distracted, difficult in concentration, noisy, lack in power in remembering something. To understand the instruction, the teacher uses some techniques and methods.
