Abstract
This study examines the song lyrics in the Greatest Hits album which is analyzed as a discourse of Westlife of song lyrics. As a discourse of the song lyrics of Westlife this study is conducted to find the configured elements of discourse they are: cohesion, intentionality, situationality. The objectives of this research are to identify the elements configuration of discourse and to describe the composer intention of the song lyrics in The Greatest Hits Album by Westlife. The type of research conducted by the writer is in the domain of descriptive qualitative. In descriptive research, there are steps of qualitative research they are: selecting, collecting and analyzing the data. The object of the research is element forming a discourse of song lyrics. The data source is taking to song lyrics in the Greatest Hits album by Westlife. In collecting the data, the researcher uses the observations method; while the techniques of collecting data are, listening to the song and recording data in the form of orthography. The recorded data in the form of orthography is the primary data; text of song lyrics in The Greatest Hits Album by Westlife is the secondary data. The researcher finds three elements of discourse configuration they are: cohesion, intentionality and situationality. In this research researcher find 34 data of the cohesion, 10 data of the intentionality and 10 data of the situationality. In the data cohesion there are 4 data of substitution, 10 data of ellipsis, 5 data of the conjunction, 10 data of the reference and 5 data of the lexical cohesion. The writer also find by composer intention of song in the Greatest Hits Album by Westlife.
