Abstract

The object of the research is the movie entitled Scary Movie 4 by Buena Vista International Production. The study focuses on pragmatic analysis, the objective of this study is to find out the forms of humor expressions that are employed in the situation comedy of the film entitled “scary movie 4”. The study belongs to a qualitative study. In this method, the researcher uses two data sources namely primary and secondary data. The primary data source and object of study is the film “Scary Movie 4” itself, meanwhile the secondary ones are any literature related with the study. The technique of data analysis in this study is descriptive method that is a method used for describing, explaining, and analyzing the problem. Descriptive method is used for analyzing some cases, so it only applies for small scope, it does not apply in general. The result of the study shows the following conclusion. There are four types of humor expression which are employed in Scary Movie 4. The four types of humor expressions are; (1) assertive form, (2) directive form, (3) commisive form and (4) expressive form. The key factors employed in Scary Movie 4 are two types of principle they are violation and exploitation. Principle violation and exploitation divided into two principles, the y are cooperative principle and politeness principle. The cooperative principle is divided into four maxims, they are; (1) quality maxim, (2) quantity maxim, (3) relevance maxim, and (4) manner maxim. The politeness principle is divided into six maxims, na mely; (1) tact maxim, (2) generosity maxim, (3) approbation maxim, (4) modesty maxim, (5) agreement maxim, and (6) sympathy maxim. Meanwhile, the principle exploitation is irony principle and the contradiction between acts of speech acts. The way the viola tion of cooperative and politeness principle causing the humor, that all of them is analyzed through the characters utterances.
