Abstract

The study is aimed at: (1) the forms of English borrowings in Indonesian, (2) the meanings of English borrowings in Indonesian, (3) the ways of English borrowings in Indonesian, (4) the processes of writing English borrowing in Indonesian, and (5) the reasons of English borrowings in Indonesian. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research, by which the object is English borrowing words in Indonesian found in Annida Magazine edition of no.6/XV. In order to collect the data, the writer must, first, read every the magazine. Find the data, collect and write them in a piece of paper. To analyze the data, the writer, firstly, classified the forms of borrowings, classified the changes of meaning in borrowings. Describe the process of adopting the English borrowing words in Indonesian, and at last, draw conclusions. The study shows that there are: (1) two forms of borrowings: loan word and loanshift. Loan word consist of cover, oke, imajinasi,and literature. Loan shift consist of pencakar langit and pengering rambut. (2) Four changes in meanings of the borrowings. They are, total change; fly, permanent meaning; seks, oke, universitas, and radio, narrowing meanings; hostes and konglomerate, broadening meaning; drama queen and hem. (3) Two ways of borrowings; direct and indirect. The direct ones are such words like hot, make up, shock, introvert, shift, support, and mood. The indirect ones are such words like kognitif, proses, manifestasi, idealisme, oke, literature, and porno. (4) Two processes of writing borrowings; phonological and morphological integration. The phonological integration is consisted of epenthesis; misi, argumen, and protes, cluster simplification, kombinasi, teknologi, riset, realita and ikon. syllabification of glides; idealisme, oke porno, adopsi, fakta, and metode, no phological change; hot, seks, oke, make up, shock, shift, support, mood, fly, and headline. Purely pronunciation change, faktor, topik, structur, and efek. The data classified in morphological change are produksi, modifikasi, ilustrasi, kombinasi, adopsi, imajinasi, informasi, and motivasi. (5) Three borrowing with the reasons of prestige motives: oke, argument, and fakta. There are four borrowings with the condition of need filling motives: histories, proses, universitas, and pornografi. Key words: Borrowings, loan words and loan shift.
