Abstract
This study aims to 1) describe the structure of the novel Puya Ke Puya by Faisal Oddang, 2) describe the symbolic interpretation of Toraja people's culture in the novel Puya Ke Puya by Faisal Oddang, and 3) describe the research results as literature learning materials. This type of research uses descriptive qualitative research with a Literary Anthropology approach. The data collection technique used literature study technique, listening and note taking. The data analysis technique used descriptive hermeneutic analysis technique. The results of this research are as follows: (1) the building blocks of the novel include: the theme of adherence to custom, the characters who play a role there are 12 characters, the plot used is mixed plot (forward and backward), and the setting in this novel in Kete Kesu Village, with a time setting between the 20th - 21st centuries. (2) The symbolic interpretations found in this novel consist of the represented plans including traditional songs, traditional clothes, tongkonan, and ritual equipment. The represented Torajan prescription is ma'tinggoro tedong. Represented Torajan rules are noble strata and values. Lastly, the Torajan clues represented are aluk todolo beliefs, puya symbols and the Rambu Solo Ritual. (3) The relevance of the research results to this teaching material is seen from the suitability of the novel material with the Learning Outcomes in phase F of this reading and viewing element, which can be further developed into ATP.
