Abstract

This research examines the phenomenon of traffic violations committed by high school students in Surakarta City, which has become one of the serious problems in maintaining road safety. Traffic violations by teenagers, especially high school students, are often influenced by various factors, including low legal awareness, environmental influences, and the lack of effective supervision and law enforcement. This study uses a juridical-empirical approach to identify factors causing violations, assess the level of student compliance with traffic regulations, and evaluate the effectiveness of supervision and law enforcement policies implemented by relevant authorities. Data were collected through survey methods, in-depth interviews with students, teachers, and police officers, as well as direct observation in the field. The results show that the level of student awareness of traffic regulations is still very low, and peer influence and lack of education are the main factors influencing undisciplined traffic behavior. In addition, suboptimal supervision by schools and related authorities also contributes to the high number of violations. This study provides some important recommendations for the government, schools, and the police to improve traffic education, tighten supervision, and strengthen law enforcement to reduce the number of traffic violations by high school students in Surakarta City.
