Abstract

This research discusses the concept of the riqab as one of the categories of zakat recipients (asnaf), focusing on classical to contemporary meanings. The main issue raised is the relevance of the meaning of the riqab in the modern era, where traditional slavery no longer exists, but forms of human exploitation and oppression still occur. This research aims to analyze zakat management from classical to contemporary times and redefine riqab recipients from the perspective contemporary ulama. The method used in this research is historical with a literature study approach, analyzing primary and secondary data from classical and contemporary sources. The research results show that the riqab is no longer relevant if it is interpreted textually as a slave, but is expanded to include victims of exploitation, such as human trafficking and systemic oppression. This strengthens the role of zakat in solving socio-economic problems in the modern era.
