Abstract

Counterfeiting has significantly grown, harming global businesses and national economies, with billions lost annually in Asia. Counterfeit products, including luxury items, are sold at low prices with poor quality. This thesis aims to examine how Neutralization theory and Perceived risk theory influence Indonesian consumers' attitudes towards counterfeit luxury fashion. Partial Least Square (PLS) was used to analyse data collected from 205 residents in Indonesia. Neutralization technique is a strong factor influencing consumer attitudes towards counterfeit luxury fashion, followed by Perceived risk theory. Performance risk and Prosecution risk do not influence consumer attitudes towards counterfeit luxury goods, but the Denial of Responsibility, Denial of Injury, Denial of Victim, Appeal to higher loyalties, Condemnation of the condemners, and Psychological risk positively influence consumer attitudes, on other hand Social risk negatively influence the consumer purchase intention. According to the findings, consumers who have higher ethical standards are less likely to intend to buy counterfeit luxury fashion. Campaigns centered on consumer ethics and lowering neutralization may reduce the desire to buy counterfeit luxury fashion, according to the study findings.
