Abstract
In the world of manufacturing, it is very related to the forming process using several methods, in this case using aluminum materials. Aluminum is a light metal that has good corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity and other properties as a metal. Investment casting is a method of manufacturing precision metal components using molds that can be melted. In this process, it can be done by forming a mold using wax and then melting and pouring aluminum until it becomes a product. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of In gate length variations on shrinkage, density, hardness, and microstructure. There are several variations of the length used in this study, namely with a length of 10 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm. The results of this study show that there is a chemical composition test that obtains the result of the dominant element consisting of 97.18% Aluminum (Al) as the main material. silicon (Si) 0.735%, iron (Fe) 0.755%, copper (Cu) 0.287 %, and magnesium (Mg) 0.777% so that the existing elements include magnesium silicon alloy aluminum metal (Al-Mg-Si). In the shrinkage test, the lowest result was obtained which was 1.79%, with a gate length of 10 mm. The density test produced the highest density data, which was 3.04 g/m3 with a gate length of 10 mm, in the microstructure test there was a difference in each variation where the in gate length of 10 mm had even grain compared to the length of the gate of 20 mm and the length of the gate in gate of 30 mm, in the hardness test produced data of 73.1 VHN, 93.2 VHN, and 74.0 VHN.
