Abstract

Self-acceptance is an attitude of accepting and appreciating oneself as is, including accepting one's weaknesses and shortcomings, as well as valuing one's strengths and advantages. It involves the ability to recognize and accept oneself realistically. This study aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-acceptance, and to test whether there are differences in self-acceptance between males and females. The hypotheses in this study are: (1) There is a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and self-acceptance, (2) There are differences in self-acceptance between males and females. The research subjects consisted of 100 students selected using the Disproportional Stratified Random Sampling technique from the population of 11th-grade students at SMK Negeri 3 Sukoharjo. Data were collected using an emotional intelligence scale and a self-acceptance scale. This study used data analysis techniques including the Product Moment correlation, Independent Sample T-test, and additional analysis using simple linear regression. The result of the Product Moment correlation analysis showed a correlation value (r) of 0.562 with a significance (2-tailed) of 0.000, which indicates a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and self-acceptance. The subsequent analysis using the Independent Sample T-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), which indicates a significant difference in self-acceptance between male and female students. Male students had higher self-acceptance compared to female students. The result of the simple linear regression analysis showed an R Square value of 0.316, meaning that emotional intelligence influences self-acceptance by 31.6%.
