Abstract

Stress has become a real problem in everyday life for students and humans in general. This research aims to empirically test the relationship between self-efficacy and religiosity and academic stress in new students majoring in Psychology, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. This research method is a correlational quantitative method. The hypothesis of this research is that there is a negative relationship between self-efficacy and religiosity and academic stress in students, there is a negative relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress in students, and there is a negative relationship between religiosity and academic stress in students. The population in this study was 317 students. The sample in this study was 116 students. The technique used in taking samples uses Simple Random Sampling. The research scales used in this research are the academic stress scale, self-efficacy scale, and religiosity scale. The data analysis method uses product moment correlation techniques. The results of this research show that F = 17.042 and the Sig value. p = 0.000 (p < 0.01) which means there is a very significant relationship between self-efficacy and religiosity and academic stress in students. Meanwhile, the results of the minor hypothesis test show that there is a significant negative relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress with a Pearson Correlation value of -0.421, and there is an insignificant negative relationship between religiosity and academic stress with a Pearson Correlation value of -0.024. Good self-efficacy and student religious activities are related to better psychological health, thereby reducing new students' academic stress.
