Abstract
Smoking behavior is a risky behavior that poses a health threat for active and passive smokers, even for non-smokers. Smoking behavior mostly begins in adolescence. 9 out of 10 smokers first try smoking before turning 18 years old. The impact of smoking behavior for adolescents or students can be in the form of decreased learning outcomes, difficulty recovering when sick due to impaired immunity, irritability, insomnia and looking older than the age they should be. One of the causes of smoking in adolescents is the influence of peers and efforts to associate in groups (conformity). A meta-analysis study was conducted to measure the effect size generated by peer conformity on smoking behavior among adolescents. A quantitative review has been carried out according to the inclusion criteria of the study with the subjects of adolescents or students with school or university backgrounds aged 12-21 years. Based on this review, 14 articles were obtained with a total of 1198 subjects. The results of the meta-analysis of 14 effect size articles found the summary effect of rRE = 0.324 with p = 0.006 (p < 0.05), and z = 2.744 at 95% confidence intervals with a lower limit of 0.093 and an upper limit of 0.555. This shows that peer conformity has a significant positive effect on smoking behavior among adolescents and contributes moderately. Based on the results of the analysis of fail-safeN value this meta-analysis research has been conducted is free from publication bias.
