Abstract

E-commerce has brought convenience to consumers by providing access to shopping without having to leave home and offering a variety of products at competitive prices. However, one of the E-commerce platforms such as Shopee also has challenges in terms of consumer protection. This research aims to explore how Shopee manages consumer protection when problems occur in transactions as well as the responsibilities assumed by Shopee and business actors. This research uses a normative juridical research method and a literature approach. The results of this study found that although Shopee provides various protection mechanisms, such as warranties and means of complaint, there are still cases where consumers feel disadvantaged. It is often the case that the goods received by consumers do not match the description displayed and this problem is the responsibility of the seller. In addition, consumer data security issues such as account hacking are also an important concern even though Shopee has implemented security measures such as “3D Secure”. Therefore, stronger legal protection and stricter supervision are needed to ensure fairness and safety for consumers in e-commerce transactions.
