Abstract

Limestone mining in Gunung Kidul Regency produces residual limestone which cannot be utilized optimally and also pollutes the environment. This research tries to recycle the remaining limestone into a paving block mixture, where the remaining limestone is a substitute for some of the fine aggregate. This research uses a composition ratio between the volume of cement and sand of 1: 5. Variations in the addition of remaining limestone to the weight of sand are 15%, 17.5%, 20%, 22.5%, 25%. Paving blocks are printed using a hydraulic press machine with dimensions of 20 cm x 10 cm x 6 cm for block-shaped paving blocks and 6 cm x 6 cm x 6 cm for cube-shaped paving blocks. The conclusion of the research shows that the addition of limestone residue of a certain level can increase the compressive strength value and also the water absorption value of paving blocks. The highest average compressive strength value for paving blocks is 17.833 MPa at a variation of 20% and the highest value for paving block water absorption is 2.273% at a variation of 17.5%.
