Abstract

Low Birth Weight is one of the risk factors for wasting, LBW babies often face a high risk of infection and disease which can worsen the baby's nutritional status through weight loss. This condition will make it difficult to feed and absorb nutrients so that babies often experience wasting. This study aimed to determine the correlation between low birth weight babies and the incidence of wasting among toddlers at the Gatak Community Health Center, Sukoharjo Regency. This study was an observational research with a cross-sectional approach. The population was 1021 toddlers with a sample of 88 toddlers taken using a simple random sampling technique from all toddlers. Statistical tests used the Chi-square test. LBW baduta who experienced wasting was 9.1% and LBW baduta with non-wasting was 90.9%. Meanwhile, 12.1% of non-LBW baduta experienced wasting and 87.9% of non-LBW baduta experienced wasting and 87.9%. There was no correlation between low birth weight babies and wasting in toddlers. Pregnant women should pay more attention to food intake and nutritional status during pregnancy to avoid giving birth to LBW babies.
