Abstract

The rapidly developing era means that the existence of traditional markets is increasingly at risk. Modern markets offer places that are clean, neatly arranged, dry, not crowded, and free from slums. Of course, this condition is inversely proportional to the traditional markets atmosphere which looks dirty, smelly, untidy, muddy, crowded, and unsanitary. Traditional markets fall far short of modern markets in terms of architecture and atmosphere, so it is not wonder visitors are starting to leave traditional markets and move towards modern ones. Visitors and buyers should visit traditional market as they offer daily necessities at affordable prices. The smelly and stuffy market atmosphere can occur due to poor indoor air circulation, it could also be due to ineffective division of zones which results in the comfort in the space being disturbed and becoming uncomfortable. Poor waste management also causes the market to smell, look dirty and untidy. The aim of the planning and design concept for Pengging Traditional Market Redesign is to produce a modern and environmentally friendly traditional market design that can maximize space utilization by adapting to the needs of actors and ease of access to circulation. Eco-Friendly Architecture pays attention to the conditions of the surrounding environment. The Eco-Friendly Architecture planning approach include several aspects that represent solutions to existing problems. Energy efficiency, water efficiency, areas for greening, and waste management are certainly considered when building a building with the Green Building concept. The proposed Redesign of Pengging Traditional Market using an Eco-Friendly Architecture approach aims to provide a solution to the problems of Pengging Traditional Market.
