Abstract
Limited information on Central Java's marine resources has led to a lack of public understanding of marine biota. The lack of supporting facilities that can present clear and reliable information about marine biota and their habitats is also the cause. To access wider information about the diversity of marine life, a facility that can display marine life in detail and authentically is needed. This facility is expected to be a means of education for the wider community about marine life. Semarang City is a potential location to develop edu-marine tourism in Central Java because it is the center of foreign and domestic tourist routes and has abundant fishery potential. The development of tourism objects in the coastal areas of Semarang City, such as a public oceanarium, is expected to drive the tourism, economic and education sectors of Semarang City. The design of this oceanarium must pay attention to harmony with nature to reduce negative impacts on the environment. The application of ecological architecture principles in oceanarium design aims to restore environmental quality and prevent further damage. Thus, good environmental conditions will increase the attractiveness of the tourist attractions.
