Abstract
The ease of accessing the internet, especially social media, to find out what is going on in cyberspace at any time causes fear of missing out (FoMO) behavior in students so that it can interfere with their activities. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-control and psychological well-being with FoMO in college students who use social media. The major hypothesis in this study is that there is a relationship between self-control and psychological well-being with FoMO in college students who use social media, while the minor hypothesis is that there is a negative relationship between self-control and FoMO in college students who use social media and a negative relationship between psychological well-being and FoMO in college students who use social media. The research participants involved 180 students of the Faculty of Psychology UMS through purposive sampling technique with the criteria that students of the Faculty of Psychology UMS class of 2020-2023 who actively use social media for more than 3 hours 2 per day. This study uses quantitative correlation with self-control scale, psychological well-being scale and fear of missing out scale. The results of data analysis using multiple linear regression analysis techniques obtained a value of F = 211.851 with a sig value. 0.000 (p <0.01) and R square = 0.705 which means that self-control and psychological well-being have a significant relationship with FoMO. Obtained r value = -0.705 with sig. 0.000 (<0.01) which means that self-control has a significant negative relationship with FoMO. Obtained r value = -0.814 with sig value. 0.000 (p <0.01) which means that psychological well-being has a significant negative relationship with FoMO. The dependent variable has an effect of 70.5% with self-control variables of 20.02% and psychological well-being of 50.54%. Self-control variables, psychological well-being and FoMO are in the moderate category so it is concluded that students have good self-control and psychological well-being and students are indicated to experience fear of missing out.
