Abstract

Nature School is a formal school whose application in the learning process is more directed towards children's exploration of nature. In the city of Surakarta itself, natural school educational facilities, especially at the elementary school level, are still minimal, namely around 2% of the number of private schools in the city of Surakarta. Natural schools provide a school environment that has a natural feel with the percentage of green open spaces being more dominant than closed spaces and the relationship between humans and nature is very close in accordance with natural habluminal activities. Biophilic Design is an architectural science that emphasizes user interaction and the natural environment. Therefore, designing natural schools in Surakarta using a biophilic design approach aims to be able to create natural school designs by considering user needs as facilities that accommodate activities with educational concepts in natural schools and school environments according to the concept of biophilic design. In designing the natural school in Surakarta, data collection methods were used, namely direct observation from the field and literature studies as additional information as well as conducting comparative studies with other natural schools. The materials used in designing this natural school in Surakarta are environmentally friendly concrete and bamboo. From the results of the discussion, the city of Surakarta is very suitable by reviewing the area and function of the buildings on Jalan Kahuripan Utara Raya, Sumber, Surakarta after going through site analysis. This design also maximizes the use of natural products, waste processing, and the use of water recycling to support activities in natural schools.
