Abstract

Plant pests such as birds and leafhoppers are a serious threat to the productivity of rice farming in Indonesia. Conventional methods are often ineffective and require constant supervision by farmers, so there is a need for a system of tools that can repel pests that can be monitored remotely. This research aims to design and build an Internet of Things (IoT)-based rice pest repellent tool with an off-grid type Solar Power Plant (PLTS) power supply. The system uses an ESP32 microcontroller integrated with a PIR sensor to detect pest movement, LDR for the automation of leafhopper trap lights, and INA219 for power monitoring. Speakers are used to repel birds, while the lights work as planthopper traps. The device is connected to the Blynk app for remote monitoring and control. Solar panels are used as the main power source, overcoming the limited access to electricity on the farm. The implementation of IoT enables real-time monitoring and remote control of the system, improving efficiency and effectiveness in pest control. The system is a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to increase rice farming productivity. Test results show that the system works well under different operational conditions, with a low percentage of power measurement error between the sensor and multimeter with a range of 1.53% to 4.12%. This tool effectively detects and repels birds up to 5 meters away, and the planthopper trap light is optimal at night.
