Abstract

Uric acid is the end product of purine catabolism assisted by the enzymes guanase and xanthine oxidase. The community has utilized various traditional plants as medicine, one of which is gout. The preparation of this literature review by searching articles from the google schoolar database using the keywords "ethanol extract as antihyperuricemia in Java". The inclusion criteria used in this study are articles related to the antihyperuricemia activity of ethanol extracts in plants published in 2019-2024, the article is a fully accessible journal and there is no duplication in the article used. The results of literature screening obtained 20 plants that have antihyperuricemia activity due to the presence of secondary metabolite compounds of alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, phenolics, tannins, polyphenols, terpenoids, monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, stilbenoids, triterpenoids, saponins, glycosides, quinones, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, leucine, isoleucine, lycopene, and vitamin C. These compounds have antihyperuricemia mechanisms. These compounds have antihyperuricemia mechanisms through inhibition of the work of the xanthine oxidase enzyme, through antioxidant activity that binds free radicals during the change of purines to uric acid, increases uric acid excretion, decreases purine nucleotide cycle (PNC), and uricosuric, which increases uric acid elimination.
