Abstract
AISI 410 steel is a martensitic stainless steel which has hard and brittle properties. The annealing process is a heat treatment that is suitable for reducing material hardness. Apart from heat treatment, material treatment such as surface treatment in the form of a layer is needed to improve the surface properties of the material. One method of forming a layer on the surface of the material is Diamond Like Carbon (DLC). This research aims to determine the thickness of the Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) layer resulting from the Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition process and its wear resistance. The annealing treatment was carried out at a temperature of 850˚C with a holding time of 20 minutes. Next, the coating process was carried out using the Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition method with varying pressures of 1.0 mbar, 1.2 mbar, 1.4 mbar and 1.6 mbar at a temperature of 400˚C with a coating process time of 4 hours. Metallography tests with a Scanning Electron Microscope are used to determine layer thickness and wear resistance tests using the Ogoshi Wear Testing test equipment. After carrying out metallographic testing, the thickness of the DLC layer with a pressure variation of 1.0 mbar obtained an average layer thickness of 12.353 µm, at a pressure of 1.2 mbar it was 12.997 µm, a pressure of 1.4 mbar was 15.213 µm and a pressure of 1.6 mbar was 15.493 µm. The results of the wear test on the annealing material produced a specific wear value of 0.000495 mm2/kg, a PCVD variation of 1.0 mbar, a specific wear value of 0.000423 mm2/kg, a PCVD variation of 1.2 mbar, a specific wear value of 0.000584 mm2 /kg, in the PCVD variation of 1.4 mbar the specific wear value is 0.000988 mm2/kg, in the PCVD variation of 1.6 mbar the specific wear value is 0.000584 mm2/kg.
