Abstract
This study analyzes the audience's reaction to the message of social criticism of modern society conveyed by FSTVLST through its lyrics. The audience's reception in this study was analyzed using Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory. A related theory used to dissect this research is Herbert Marcuse's one-dimensional human theory. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive, with in-depth interview data collection techniques and the observation of five informants, namely the audience listening to FSTVLST songs. The results of this study showed that the five informants had different acceptances and interpretations of the message of social criticism conveyed by FSTVLST through its lyrics. These differences in acceptance and meaning occur due to differences in social background, culture, experience, and environment, which is in accordance with Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding reception analysis theory.
