Abstract

The research in this Wedding Agreement film aims to analyze the representation of domestic violence. The film emphasizes domestic violence between husband and wife, Bian and Tari, who are the main characters in the film. The method used in this research is qualitative by collecting data through documentation of scenes related to violence. This research analyzes the semiotic theory of Roland Barthes which explains the sign through denotation, connotation, and myth. In Indonesia, there are still several marriages that are arranged by the parents of the bride and groom on the grounds that they get the best husband or wife so that the marriage can feel comfortable and harmonious, even though in fact this cannot be justified only for this reason. The data in this study were validated using the triangulation technique. The results showed that the movie Wedding Agreement showed scenes of verbal violence, psychological violence, and infidelity in the marriage relationship between the arranged husband and wife. In addition, this research also shows that there is a myth that arranged marriages will be safe, comfortable, and harmonious. The movie depicts a lot of domestic violence and mutual harm, and the movie can break the myth that arranged marriages will have a good impact on married life through the marriage between the characters Bian and Tari.
