Abstract

Flood disasters occur frequently and remain a major concern. This is due to its impact which resulted in many fatalities and caused various losses, both material and psychological. Several factors influence the occurrence of floods, both natural and man-made, including high rainfall and littering in rivers. Therefore, this research aims to develop weather monitoring and flood warning tools based on internet of things (IoT)-based water levels to help people in areas prone to flooding to monitor the condition of surrounding rivers. This tool uses an ESP32 microcontroller, ultrasonic sensor, DHT22 sensor, rainfall sensor, and buzzer. In designing this system, ESP32 will send data from sensor readings to the Firebase database to be displayed in the MIT Inventor app. This system will also display graphs from all sensors where the graphs are obtained from ESP32 data readings. This system will provide notification of dangerous conditions when the water level is above a safe level, sent via mobile phone. Users will find it easier to monitor weather conditions and river conditions when flooding occurs. Based on the test results, it was found that the ultrasonic sensor had an error percentage of 1.22%, while temperature and humidity had an error percentage of 7.16% and 7.063%. When testing rainfall, it is carried out in three stages, namely with a sprayer, drinking water bottle and tap water hose.
