Abstract
The waste problem in Indonesia has become a serious threat if not managed properly. The increase in the amount of waste is directly proportional to the increase in population. The trigger of the problem is due to the lack of public awareness of waste management, especially students. High school students have an important role in waste management. at SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta, students are still found who have not implemented simple waste management with the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and are still found to dispose of waste not according to the place and type. While school facilities have provided bins labeled organic and inorganic, but the implementation is still not optimal. The aim is to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of senior high school students towards waste management behavior at SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta. Method This type of research is observational analytic with a cross sectional approach. The sample size was 128 respondents using cluster random sampling technique. Data collection instruments using questionnaires and data analysis using chi square test. The results obtained, respondents with good knowledge (68.0%), good attitudes (60.9%) and good behavior as much as (54.7%). The results of the analysis show that there is a relationship between knowledge (p-value = 0.024) and there is no relationship between attitudes (p-value = 0.301) of senior high school students towards waste management behavior at SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta. Conclusion on the knowledge variable there is a relationship while on attitude there is no relationship with waste management behavior Recommendations Further research needs to conduct research on factors that can influence other behaviors such as motivation, perception, promotional media or facilities in waste management in schools.
