Abstract

Work accidents are undesirable events that can cause losses and are still a serious problem for workers in Indonesia. Work accidents can occur in all jobs, including rice mill workers. The condition of the Teras District area is that there are still many rice fields, so there are also rice mills. There are risk factors for work accidents for workers in that place. These factors can be human factors and environmental factors. Knowledge and attitudes are factors that originate from human factors. This research examines the relationship between work knowledge and attitudes and the incidence of work accidents among rice mill workers in the Teras District area. This type of research is a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study was 55 workers in all rice mills in the Teras District area. The sampling technique uses total sampling, namely all workers are sampled. Data collection is by interviews using questionnaires covering the variables of knowledge, attitudes and work accident incidents. Statistical tests use the chi-square test. The results of the research show that there is a relationship between knowledge and work attitudes with the incidence of work accidents among rice mill workers in the Teras District area with a knowledge p-value of 0.002, and an attitude p-value of 0.001. The number of respondents who had less knowledge was 30 (54.5%) respondents, 23 (76.7%) had experienced work accidents. This means that insufficient knowledge of work accidents tends to encourage workers to behave unsafely (unsafe action) such as not wearing personal protective equipment, being indifferent to potential dangers such as slippery floors, the dangers of sharp objects and the dangers of rotating machines. This also applies to attitudes. Efforts to improve occupational health and safety, such as outreach, implementing safety briefings, strengthening Standard Operating Procedures, and monitoring rice mill owners can be carried out to reduce the incidence of work accidents.
