Abstract

Assertive behavior is behavior that helps students in the classroom because it has an impact on students' self-confidence and ability to express opinions. In this case, researchers conducted research aimed at finding out the relationship between interpersonal communication and overprotective parenting patterns and assertive behavior in adolescents. The research method used is a correlational quantitative approach with purposive sampling data collection techniques with a sample of 125 students from SMPN 3 Colomadu. The research instrument used was a questionnaire formed from three variables which were then tested by raters. Data analysis in this research uses multiple linear regression analysis. The analysis results show that the major hypothesis can be proven with an F value of 45.549 and an f table of 3.167 (f>ftable) with a sign of 0.000 (p < 0.05) so that interpersonal communication and overprotective parenting have a significant relationship with Assertive Behavior in students. Meanwhile, partial hypothesis testing shows a t-test result of -4.022 with a t table of 2.004 with a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.050) and an effective contribution of 0.158. The t-test result was 5.926 with a t table of 2.004 with a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.050) with an effective contribution of 0.269. These results show that the two variables, namely interpersonal communication and overprotective parenting, partially have a relationship with the assertive behavior of students at SMPN 3 Colomadu while the remaining 57.3% is influenced by other variables such as culture, level of education, self-esteem, personality type, and certain environmental situations.
