Abstract

Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) is the deliberate act of harming oneself without the intention of ending one's life. NSSI is influenced by three aspects: negative emotionality, deficits in emotion skills, and self-derogation. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and loneliness on NSSI behavior among emerging adulthood college students. The research was conducted using a quantitative method on 62 emerging adulthood college students, utilizing crowdsourcing techniques with criteria including Indonesian college students aged 18 to 25 years who have engaged in NSSI behavior. Data collection was carried out using Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury (ISAS), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that self-esteem and loneliness significantly affect NSSI among emerging adulthood college students, with an F value of 14.102, an r value of 0,569, and a significance level of 0,000 (p < 0,01). There is a highly significant negative role between self-esteem and NSSI among emerging adulthood college students, with an r value of -0,571, a β value of -0,549, a t value of -5,080, and a p value of 0,000 (p < 0,01). There is a statistically non-significant positive role between loneliness and NSSI among emerging adulthood college students, with an r value of 0,166, a β value of 0,240, a t value of 2,217, and a p value of 0,031 (p > 0,01). The results show that the level of NSSI behavior is correlated with the levels of self-esteem and loneliness. The results of this study have broad implications aimed at improving the mental well- being of students and preventing NSSI behaviors.
