Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus type 2 is one of the leading causes of death, or about 2.1% of all deaths in the world. Diabetes Mellitus type 2 is a degenerative disease caused by poor eating habits and physical activity. Uncontrolled blood glucose levels can cause complications in the body. The number of diabetes mellitus sufferers in Indonesia in 2018 is increasing compared to 2013. Diabetes mellitus occupies the second highest proportion of all non-communicable diseases. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between fiber intake and body mass index with fasting blood glucose levels in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus outpatients at Ir. Soekarno Hospital, Sukoharjo Regency. This research is observational with a cross-sectional approach. The number of respondents was 36 outpatients. Respondent selection used consecutive sampling technique. Fiber intake data was obtained through interviews and semi-quantitative FFQ questionnaires for the last 1 month, body mass index data was obtained through easurements of body weight and height, while fasting blood glucose level data was obtained from medical records. Data analysis using spearman rank test. The results showed that all respondents had insufficient fiber intake, 16 respondents (44.4%) had normal BMI and 24 respondents (66.7%) had excessive fasting blood glucose levels. The statistical test of the relationship between fiber intake and fasting blood glucose levels showed a p-value of 0.224 (>0.05) and the relationship between body mass index and fasting blood glucose levels showed a p-value of 0.529 (>0.05). There is no correlation between body mass index and fiber intake with fasting blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus type 2 outpatient at Ir. Soekarno Hospital, Sukoharjo Regency.
