Abstract
This research aims to describe the self-acceptance process of parents who have children with Down syndrome and the factors that influence the self-acceptance of parents who have children with Down syndrome. This study used qualitative research methods. The data collection method used was semi-structured interviews. The research subjects were five parents who had children with Down syndrome. The sampling technique used was snowball sampling. The results of this research found that the process of self-acceptance that parents of children with Down syndrome go through includes a stage of denial which is indicated by rejection and sadness. The stage of anger shown by blaming yourself and blaming God. The bargaining stage is shown by taking the therapy child to several experts in the hope that the child will be normal. The depression stage is indicated by parents crying for a week. The self-acceptance stage is indicated by parents feeling proud and able to accept their child. Factors that influence parents' self-acceptance are social support obtained from neighbors, the family environment and the school environment. Apart from the social support factor, there is the factor of parental gratitude, namely parents feel grateful for the destiny that God has given them. The advice given to parents is that parents are expected to be able to carry out their role as parents of children with Down syndrome well. The advice given to future researchers it can be used as a reference model for further research in a different direction and with a wider scope. Keywords: self-acceptance, parents, down syndrome
