Abstract

The elderly period is a time when there are many changes in terms of physical changes, social changes, psychological changes and cognitive changes. One of the cognitive changes that often occurs in the elderly is a decrease in brain function. This is what triggers frequent sleep disturbances in the elderly which can cause poor sleep quality in the elderly. This study aims to determine the effect of elderly gymnastics on sleep quality in the elderly at Panti Wredha Dharma Bhakti Surakarta. This research method uses a pre-experiment design with a one test pretest-postest design. The subjects of this study were 6 elderly people at the Dharma Bhakti Wredha Home who had poor sleep quality. Sampling technique using purposive sampling. Measuring instrument of sleep quality with PSQI questionnaire. Normality test using shapiro-wilk test and hypothesis testing using paired sample t-test. The results showed that after being given the elderly gymnastics intervention twice a week for 3 weeks, it was found that there was a decrease in PSQI scores and the results of the paired sample t-test test obtained a value of t = 6.742 with a p-value of 0.0001, so Ha was accepted so that there was a significant and positive effect of providing elderly gymnastics interventions on reducing sleep quality in the elderly.
