Abstract

Fire is a disaster that can occur at any time. Fires can occur due to various factors such as natural factors or human negligence. Fires caused by LPG gas leaks often occur in the surrounding area. Gas leaks are a problem and become dangerous if a fire occurs. This research aims to design a tool to detect gas leaks in a room by utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The way this tool works uses the ESP8266 nodeMCU which is integrated with the MQ-2 sensor as a gas detector in the room. When the MQ-2 sensor detects gas that exceeds a predetermined threshold, it will turn on the buzzer, LED and fan. The fan functions to exhaust gas outside the room. The detected gas level is displayed on the 16x2 LCD screen, and the tool will send a message to the smartphone via blynk that a gas leak has occurred. Based on the results of instrument testing, the MQ-2 sensor can detect the presence of gas from a distance of 1 cm to 9 cm. The tool sounds a buzzer, fan, red LED, and sends a warning message to the smartphone if the ppm value is more than 200 ppm.
