Abstract
Distribution system is a part that is prone to harmonic distortion. A number of loads connected to the distribution system are non-linear loads that distort the system. In addition to harmonic distortion, the presence of nonlinear loads also causes voltage fluctuations and additional power losses. One method to suppress harmonic distortion is to install a passive filter in the distribution system. However, the size and location of the filter are two variables that must be determined so that distortion mitigation is effective. To assess the size and location of the harmonics, it is necessary to analyze the harmonic load flow. For this purpose, a computer program was developed using the MatLab programming language which was then run for a distribution system that served a number of harmonic loads. After a filter of a certain size is installed in a certain location, its effect on reducing distortion and improving the voltage and power loss profile is analyzed. It is expected that the optimal size of the harmonic filter and the best location that provides the most optimal harmonic mitigation will be obtained.
